Tiny knots Big Dreams
At Emmawigmaster, my mission is to inspire, teach, and mentor the next generation of professional wig makers for the film, theatre, television, and live performance industries. From my home in Niagara-on-the-Lake, I am dedicated to preserving the artistry and craftsmanship of performance wig making while introducing innovative techniques and professional standards to future artists.
I believe young creatives deserve opportunities to learn specialized skills that are not currently offered in traditional secondary school programs across Canada. Through hands-on training in wig construction, styling, ventilation, maintenance, and theatrical hair artistry, I aim to provide students with the confidence, creativity, and real-world experience needed to succeed in the entertainment industry.
My vision is for Emmawigmaster to become Canada’s leading performance wig education and production company, a place where artistry, education, and mentorship come together to shape the future of performance wig making for film and theatre across the country.
Welcome
-Wig Master
Emma Dirks
Hi, I'm Emma.
I'm a wig maker, educator, and professional knot untangler based in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario.
After studying Theatre at the University of Texas, specializing in wigs and makeup, I began my career in Los Angeles, working in film, television, independent productions, and fashion. I later returned to Canada, where I now work as a Wig Master at the Shaw Festival.
I've created everything from historical wigs and lace-fronts to beards, moustaches, and custom hairpieces. What I love most about this craft is its unique blend of technical precision and storytelling. A great wig can transform an actor and bring a character to life.
I'm also the founder of The Art of Wig Making, a workshop series dedicated to making this specialized craft more accessible. Through my work, teaching, and online content, I'm passionate about preserving the art of wig making, sharing the knowledge I've been given, and inspiring the next generation of artists.
